In health and social care, embedding the voices of service users and carers is not just good practice—it’s essential for delivering compassionate, person-centred care. My work across public health and social care has shown that when lived experience is genuinely integrated into decision-making, services become more relevant, equitable, and effective.

In public health and social care, we often say that people are at the heart of what we do. But true person-centred care goes beyond the people we support—it must also extend to the teams who deliver that care every day.

I am absolutely delighted to share that the Patient as Coach Team (PaCT) Initiative, which I led the development of, has been recognised nationally in Learning from the Best – Celebrating Patient Experience Innovations to Help Deliver the NHS 10 Year Plan as a Best Practice Example now directly mapped against the new NHS 10 Year Plan – Fit for the Future for England.
